"I now feel proud to be an American!" ???
In the past few weeks in our country we have all been witness to something wonderful, great, moving and historic. Barack Obama has been elected to be the first African American President in our countries storied history. I am honored to be alive during this great time. That aside I did vote for the other guy:) I typically stay out of the political world and really anything that is of consequence in the world unless it has to do with sports. I am happy to live my life and take care of my family and not worry on a day to day basis about the economy, wars or any other problem that might be going on in the world. Is that right I doubt it but it sure makes my life a little less complicated. But something that I have noticed in society whether it is other blogs, facebook, emails, myspace or any other place in this country and to me it is really sad and disturbing. And that is the comment, "I am now proud to call my self an American." I have always been proud to be an American. I love this country and all that it affords me and my family. I am sorry but most people around the world would give their right arm to be able to live in this country. Now do I think that our current President has his flaws, absolutely, but so has every President that this country has ever seen and so will our next President. The Articles of Faith written as 13 statments of truth that we believe in as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints clearly define that. In AoF # 12 it reads: "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law". It does not say democrats or republicans, white or black, gay or straight, man or woman. It says president! We are to obey, honor and sustain the law regardless. Do I agree with all of Obama's proposed plans and idealogies, no but I do respect him for his office and what he is now charged with. I will pray for him and the other leaders of this great country to guide us in a direction that will benefit all who live here. I am very proud to be an American citizen and I am greatful to those who serve, sacrifice and are willing to keep this country free for me to live in my safe sports centered world. I will now depart from my lone venture into political commentary back to the world I know best sports!

It is Official
It is official!!! My son is now an athlete. Thus begins the dilema of what type of sports parent I want to be to my children. I have put off thinking about it seriously for many years now. Long before I ever had children I would wonder what kind of sports parent I would be. Would I be the Jerk who yells at his kid from the sideline, the Quiet one there to be supportive, the Coach on the field being the example, the Nag who is constantly asking for more playing time for my child who does not deserve more playing time. I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what I want, it is what my children want. In my chosen profession as a coordinator for youth sports activities I see it all and I do not like where youth sports is headed if there is not a change in the mentality of parents. I am sorry but your kid is not the next Michael Jordan, Alex Rodriguez or Tiger Woods. He might have hit a home run off another 7yr old but in 5 years that kid is going to be 6' 5" 210lbs and your kid will still be 5'8" 165lbs and it wont even be close. So what if he scored 32 in basketball game or that their team won Hoopfest. Sports is about learning leadership, exercise, teamwork and fun. Watching Trey and the joy as he got ready for his first soccer practice/game was priceless. Seeing him grab his size three ball, wearing his matching shoes and shorts and run and join the group will never be able to erased from my memory. I am greatful that I can be father and watch my children grow and learn to become good citizens and friends to those they meet. I look forward to being there for Trey in any fashion he would have me throughout his athletic career, however long it will be.

Inside My Head's innagural blog entry...
Well I did not create this site to update others on what is inside my head. And most times you will get on here you will notice nothing has changed. I think that the name of this blog describes it best, most of the time there isn't anything going on in my head! I do think that this is a great way to stay connected and find people from your past and keep in touch a little. I hope from time to time I will be able to post something that passes through this head of mine that will entertain or inspire all who read, but DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH!! :)
Until the next time,
LeRoy
